Launching a Book in the Indie World – 3 weeks to go

Tonight’s job? Making Teasers? No, I don’t have the focus. Why? Well, I’m knackered. I cycled 23km today and my arse hurts.

What else is on my list? No, not that, nope not that either. So, you get the picture, I am wandering blindly through my to do list not wanting to do any of it. Launching a book is a bit like a wedding, there is a lull where nothing really happens and then two weeks to go and everything needs to be done. I’m in that lull. I should keep approaching bloggers but my focus is not there and I don’t want to make a mistake.

What I’m going to do it sort through book three, it’s written, of a fashion, the chapters are written just not in the correct order. I know and have written what happens just haven’t bridged the chapters. What I mean by that is, when I think of a story to write, I scribble down what I want to happen, write those key chapters and then bridge the gaps and sew the story together. The Chronicles of Catherine Brodie were originally one book. Not all four books in one, but one story. Book 2 to be exact, I had originally written book 2 first, then book 1 then book 3, book 4 hasn’t been written yet, although it is all mapped out.

The same thing happened with The Geary Series. That started off as one short story of 10,000 words and then moved into 206,500 words and three novels.

When I start a story I have a blank word document and write in red bullet points of key things that I want to happen. Those chapters are written and then the story builds. When I cycle to work, I focus on a sticking point and figure out what I need to happen. As soon as I figure it out, I stop the bike, type out some sentences on my phone and then transfer them to my WIP when I get home.

So tonight I am shuffling chapters around.

Here’s what I have left to do (in no particular order):

Contact 1000 849 blogs and get help, my current sign up rate is 46%; Attach book on Author Central (Amazon); Newsletter Release once live; write and then post excerpts; Post a Goodreads event; Organise a paperback giveaway; Update Website; Design Teasers; Format the book for eBook and Paperback; organise a thunderclap; update all the other eBook novels with this book’s title under books by this author; arrange for Book 1 to be at a reduced price a week before; set up ARCs.

Decide whether to:

  • Decide if I want to do a Facebook author take over, author event, blog tour and blog event.
  • Decide if I want to do a Facebook advert, a Goodreads advert, Amazon Advert.

Will you help by commenting below some advice? and sign up to help launch the book? Here’s the form: http://goo.gl/forms/V1nUOByWE9

#SupportAnIndieAuthor

I’m going to blog each day about my journey in releasing my next book. I have two aims:

  • A vain effort to help others, I hope my experience will help a budding or even an experienced author.
  • Get the conversation going, I don’t pretend to have all the answers, not even half of them. If I did, I’d be #1 in my genre. I want people in the author world to help me and each other. Share my blog, comment with helpful tips, not just for me but for everyone else that is going to read them.

JPG Kindle Cover

Synopsis:

“…’Do you love me yet?’ Alex said, hoping the answer was yes…”

The Recovery of Catherine Brodie starts four years after Erin’s confrontation in the cellar of Green’s. Alexander Devlin wants his band to perform at Green’s and writes a begging email. Erin relents and says yes, even though it goes against all her rules.

Erin continues to put her past behind her, but like every bad penny, they always turn up.

Erin Brodie has made a success of her music venue and it’s the most sought after place in the country for non-signed artists to perform. Alexander Devlin is the guitarist from the rock band Fragile, they are at the top of their game and are just about to release their final album.

Erin drops her guard and so her courtship with Alex begins, but it comes at a price. Erin has enemies and, this time, they have upped their game. This time, her life is in jeopardy and it takes all of her friends to race to find her.

This time, they might just be too late…
